Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him. No one experiencing temptation should say, “I am being tempted by God;” for God is not subject to temptation to evil, and he himself tempts no one. Rather, each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire conceives and brings forth sin, and when sin reaches maturity it gives birth to death.

The Lord acknowledged my righteousness, rewarded my clean hands. For I kept the ways of the Lord; I was not disloyal to my God. His laws were all before me, his decrees I did not cast aside. I was honest toward him; I was on guard against sin. So the Lord rewarded my righteousness, the cleanness of my hands in his sight. Toward the faithful you are faithful; to the honest you are honest. Toward the sincere, sincere; but to the perverse you are devious. Humble people you save; haughty eyes you bring low.

Psalm 18 continued – verses 21-28

Lord, my heart is not proud; nor are my eyes haughty. I do not busy myself with great matters, with things too sublime for me. Rather, I have stilled my soul, hushed it like a weaned child. Like a weaned child on its mother’s lap, so is my soul within me. Israel, hope in the Lord, now and forever.

Psalm 131

Graciously rescue me, God! Come quickly to help me, Lord! Confound and put to shame those who seek my life. Turn back in disgrace those who desire my ruin. Let those who say “Aha!” turn back in their shame. But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. May those who long for your help always say, “God be glorified!” Here I am, afflicted and poor. God, come quickly! You are my help and deliverer. Lord, do not delay!

Psalm 70:2-6

He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the Church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things for him, making peace by the blood of his cross, whether those on earth or those in heaven.

Colossians 1:15-20

Where can I hide from your spirit? From your presence, where can I flee? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I lie down in Sheol, your are there too. If I fly with the wings of dawn and alight beyond the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand hold me fast. If I say, “Surely darkness shall hide me, and night shall be my light” – Darkness is not dark for you, and night shines as the day. Darkness and light are but one. You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, so wonderfully you made me; wonderful are your works! My very self you knew; my bones were not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, fashioned as in the depths of the earth. Your eyes foresaw my actions; in your book all are written down; my days were shaped, before one came to be.

Psalm 139: 7-16

Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: “You are my Son; this day I have begotten you;” just as he says in another place: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 5:1-6

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths but speak not; they have eyes but see not; they have ears but hear not; No breath is in their mouths. Their makers shall be like them, all who trust in them. House of Israel, bless the Lord! Houses of Aaron, bless the Lord! House of Levi, bless the Lord! You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord! Blessed from Zion be the Lord, who dwells in Jerusalem! Hallelujah!

Psalm 135:15-21

We know that no one begotten by God sins; but the one begotten by God, he protects, and the evil one cannot touch him. We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one. We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

I John 5:18-21

God, who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, God’s love endures forever; And led Israel from their midst, God’s love endures forever; With mighty hand and outstretched arm, God’s love endures forever; Who split in two the Red Sea, God’s love endures forever; And led Israel through, God’s love endures forever; But swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea, God’s love endures forever; Who led the people through the desert, God’s love endures forever.

Psalm 136: 10-16

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, mark our sins, Lord, who can stand? But with you is forgiveness and so you are revered. I wait with longing for the Lord, my soul waits for his word. My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for daybreak. More than sentinels for daybreak, let Israel look for the Lord. For with the Lord is kindness, with him is full redemption. And God will redeem Israel from all their sins.
