Vincentian supported charities are meeting the needs of children, adults and families through:

Religious Education
Counseling
Soup kitchens and food pantries
Emergency assistance – utilities, food, medicine, shelter, clothing, etc.
Medical care for the uninsured
Tutoring & mentoring in numerous locations throughout the United States.

Through your generosity, the Vincentian Community is able to staff and/or support many ministries. Below are a few examples:

Vincentians feed the hungry in their communities-

Vincentians provide meals seven days a week to feed the hungry in their parishes located in New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Greensboro, and Charlotte. Often this is the only meal some people eat that day. Food pantries also help supply food for the poor.

Vincentians make Catholic education available for the poor-

Education holds the key to a young person’s future. Vincentians provide needy children with tuition scholarships to attend Catholic Elementary and High Schools. Vincentians also provide after-school and summer classes in reading and mathematics, summer Bible school camps, and volunteer academic mentoring.

Vincentians provide shelter for the needy-

The Vincentian Community has established two shelter programs for those with housing needs. The “Inn Dwelling” program renovates and rehabilitates homes and sells them to low-income families. “Potter House” is a shelter for “recovering” homeless men. In addition to housing, these two programs offer job training, counseling, financial guidance, and schooling for adults and children.

Vincentians help Immigrants-

Teams of Vincentian priests and brothers with the assistance of sisters and laity work in New York City, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Greensboro with Hispanic/Latino, Vietnamese and other immigrants. They help these newly arrived individuals and families learn English, and help with housing, job searches, and medical needs. They arrange to have our new brothers and sisters enroll in parishes so that they can attend Mass and receive the other Sacraments.

Lord, hear my prayer; let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me now that I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn away as in a furnace. I am withered, dried up like grass, too wasted to eat my food. All day long my enemies taunt me; in their rage, they make my name a curse. I eat ashes like bread, mingle my drink with tears. Because of your furious wrath, you lifted me up just to cast me down.

Psalm 102:1-5, 9-11

O Lord, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the earth! you have set your majesty above the heavens! Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have drawn a defense against your foes, to silence enemy and avenger. When I see the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and stars that you set in place – What are humans that you are mindful of them, mere mortals that you care for them? You have made them little less than a god, crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them rule over the works of your hands, put all things under their feet: all sheep and oxen, even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatever swims the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the earth!

Psalm 8:2-10

So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma. Immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is fitting among holy ones, no obscenity or silly or suggestive talk, which is out of place, but instead, thanksgiving. Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient. So do not be associated with them.

Ephesians 5:1-7

Everyone who commits sin commits lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who remains in him sins; no one who sins has seen him or known him. Children, let no one deceive you. The person who acts in righteousness in righteous, just as he is righteous. Whoever sins belongs to the devil, because the devil has sinned from the beginning. Indeed, the Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is begotten by God commits sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot sin because he is begotten by God.

I John 3:4-9

You have given me the strength of a wild bull; you have poured rich oil upon me. My eyes look with glee on my wicked enemies; my ears delight in the fall of my foes. The just shall flourish like the palm tree, shall grow like a cedar of Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall bear fruit even in old age, always vigorous and sturdy, as they proclaim: “The Lord is just; our rock, in whom there is no wrong.”

Psalm 92 continued – verses 11-16

Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and oppressed. Preserve my life, for I am loyal; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; pity me, Lord; to you I call all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant; to you, Lord, I lift up my soul. Lord, you are kind and forgiving, most loving to all who call on you. Lord, hear my prayer; listen to my cry for help. In the time of trouble I call, for you will answer me.

Psalm 86: 1-7

Give to the Lord, you families of nations, give to the Lord glory and might; give to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring gifts and enter his courts; bow down to the Lord, splendid in holiness. Tremble before God, all the earth; say among the nations: The Lord is king. The world will surely stand fast, never to be moved. God rules the peoples with fairness. Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and what fills it resound; let the plains be joyful and all that is in them. Then let all the trees of the forest rejoice before the Lord who comes, who comes to govern the earth, to govern the world with justice and the peoples with faithfulness.

Psalm 96 continued – verses 7-13

Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord.

Ephesians 5:8-14, 15-17

Remember your word to your servant by which you give me hope. This is my comfort in affliction, your promise that gives me life. Though the arrogant utterly scorn me, I do not turn from your teaching. When I recite your edicts of old I am comforted, Lord. Rage seizes me because of the wicked; they forsake your teaching. Your laws become my songs wherever I make my home. Even at night I remember your name in observance of your teaching, Lord. This is my good fortune, for I have observed your precepts.

Psalm 119 continued – verses 49-56

Teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart. Relent, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants! Fill us at daybreak with your love, that all our days we may sing for joy. Make us glad as many days as you humbled us, for as many years as we have seen trouble Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God be ours. Prosper the work of our hands! Prosper the work of our hands!
