The Green Scapular was given to Sister Bisqueyburu, a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, through a revelation she received from Our Blessed Mother on January 28, 1840. It received official approval by Pope Pius IX in 1863 and again in 1870. Unlike other scapulars, the Green Scapular consists of a single piece of green cloth hanging from a green cord. It may be worn around the neck or carried in one's clothing. The invocation found on the scapular, "Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death," should be recited daily. If a person in need of  physical or spiritual healing is unwilling to accept the scapular, it can be placed in his or her room. The one giving the scapular may say a prayer for that person.
